Today at work, we celebrated someone's birthday. Apparently, her birthday is next week, but since she won't be here, the goodies were brought in today. Someone brought in a large, marble sheet cake with whipped (WHIPPED!!!) icing and a box of a dozen or so doughnuts. Also, one of the gals in Student Records won breakfast from a local radio station, so at the same time that we were singing Happy Birthday and cutting the cake (at 9:30 a.m., for the love of God!!), her doughnuts, coffee, bagels, and cream cheese were delivered!
If you know my office, you know that we freaking ALWAYS have food. It's kind of ridiculous actually. The birthday celebrations got so bad (and frequent) over the last couple of years that, starting with 2009, we're enacting the "Happy Birthday Month" Day -- one day of food for birthdays per month. Thank goodness is all I can say to that! I'm sure there will be other food brought in at other times, but at least we won't have cake 7 times a month like we seem to now!
Anyway, I was really proud of myself this morning. I TOTALLY resisted all food! I was enjoying my pumpkin spice coffee (brewed at work, not Starbucks, unfortunately!) with my English Toffee Almond creamer and didn't partake in the food at that time. Later, I did have a SMALL piece of cake after lunch, but that's been it! Yay! Also, if you let the food sit out in the break room long enough, it either gets completely eaten or it gets kind of dried out and becomes less appealing, so if you can just hold out for a while, usually you don't have as big of a craving!
Yay for me! I'm celebrating this as a victory and, even if you're reading this thinking, "But you shouldn't have had the cake!", I hope you can see my victory, too! :)
