Wow, here I am again!

I literally just a few minutes ago told my sister that I had read a little of her blog and my blog while looking for a recipe online from our joint blog, and dang it, we're funny! I miss reading her blog and, really, I know I should write more, so here I am again for now.

It's been a LONG time since I last wrote. June 3?!? That's crazy! Since then, we've experienced summer, some family vacations, and swimming in the big pool. It's been a big summer! We went up to Chicago one Friday to the Lincoln Park Zoo. It was a pretty great time, despite my driving in Chicago stress. Let's face the facts...I am a great driver. And I rarely get that stressed out about driving, which is why I typically drive us everywhere. (And also, I get a little car sick unless I'm driving). But, man, driving in the actual city of Chicago gives me anxiety like nothing else! Especially when I'm driving with Austin in the car. You have to be a little aggressive if you're going to get to the lane you want, and I can do that, but I don't like it!

After the zoo, we met up with our friends Jill and Charlie, Jill's parents, and Charlie's kids at Soldier Field. Jill and Charlie had gotten us tickets to the Bears' Family Night event for Nick's birthday, where we got to go and watch them practice, basically. I think we all thought it was going to be an actual game or scrimmage and, while there was a little scrimmaging, it was a lot of stretching and drills. Being someone who isn't that excited about football anyway, this was a little boring to me! But Nick had fun and we had a good time spending time together and with our friends, so overall, it was a good day! However, trying to get out of that area with all the stadium traffic around plus the entire other side of the street shut down from Lollapalooza was rough on our poor GPS! "Turn left...turn left now...take the immediate left..." Sorry, TomTom!

The next weekend, the three of us went to Union, IL to have our Day Out with Thomas! It was pretty cool! We got to meet Thomas the Train and Sir Topham Hatt and take our fun (but brief!) ride on the train pulled by Thomas. Austin loved seeing his familiar "friends" from TV and also exploring the other trains that were there at the train museum. We would have liked to see more of the Thomas crowd (Percy? James? Where were you??) but it was really a good time!

Field Trip Day!

Austin went on his first field trip today at preschool! The class went to Fairview Park to play, and took the city bus to get there. He was SO excited the last two days, especially about riding the bus! I saw the bus pull up at the bus stop outside my office window but of course, the kids had gotten on the bus at the stop closer to the preschool. I couldn't quite see into the bus from my office, so I went over to the door of the building and peeked out. Sure enough, there was my little buddy sitting on the bus looking out the window just like a big, grown up kid! I stepped out of the door and waved at him and I could see his face light up when he saw me (I'm totally tearing up writing this, sheesh!). I saw him wave and say, "Mom! Mom! Hi!" I can't wait to pick him up today and hear all about the field trip...and the bus ride!

We love Heartland's Child Development Lab!

Rainy Day Blahs

Today it is raining. It's been raining a LOT lately which, overall, isn't bad, but it's leading to everyone feeling a little dreary, I think. I'm a little dreary today because I have a headache, it's gray and rainy out, and because I got some disappointing news last night. Now, this news isn't anything tragic or life shattering, thank goodness, but just something that I was really excited for that isn't going to happen anymore. I'll live, I'll get over it, but it's lingering right now. I hate the lingering, because my brain likes to forcibly make me remember what it is that is bothering me a bunch before letting go of it.

On a more positive note, I did tape and prime our kitchen last night. We're starting to repaint the inside of our house. When we moved in, both Nick and I were happy with all of the current colors so we didn't do any repainting at that time. Now it's just time to freshen up, and I'm really excited to see how it looks! I've already done the upstairs bathroom and am really pleased with how it turned out. The color I picked for the kitchen, "Glass Tile", is a really pretty blue-green color. I have been putting off tackling the kitchen project because it seems like it's a big job, but last night something just got into me and I started taping. Then, after I put Austin to bed and Nick head to work, I decided I might as well start priming. Then once I started, I knew I wanted to finish the priming! So now we're ready to paint the actual color, except that I need to pick up a few more rollers. I'm resolving to have the color painted and the whole kitchen done by the end of the day this Monday, which I have off from work!

Next up on the repainting front? Maybe Austin's room! I haven't purchased any other paint yet, except for the trim/neutral color that goes on several walls. We'll see what strikes me next!

Bevande BAM!

Today Austin and I went to my weekly chiropractor appointment where he got some much-needed attention from "Dr. Sam" (the awesome office manager who totally loves him!). Good thing, too, because if there's one kid in this world who never gets any attention, it's so my child!

After the chiro, we headed to Bevande because I had a coupon for a free "gourmet" coffee drink and I never get out that way. I selected the Bevande Bam, and let me tell you...it's quite the choice! It's advertised as "4 shots of espresso in a mocha". I thought, "No problem! I can handle it!" It was very tasty, and I wasn't feeling any sort of caffeine buzz...until the last half hour! Now I'm a little out of it and pumped full of energy simlutaneously. This should make for a great new student orientation in an hour!

Procrastination Station

I know, I should blog more. But I haven't been. But now I feel like doing it, so here you go!

It's May 10, and my heater was working it's little butt off this weekend! Note to nature: My heater should NOT be running in May, for goodness' sake! Yesterday was warmer, so the heat didn't kick in during the day, but Saturday? All day long it came on! Ridiculous!

I had a nice Mother's Day weekend. Incidentally, isn't it really Mothers' Day and not Mother's Day? Isn't it more than just one mother's day? I feel as though I'm committing grammar fraud every time I type "Happy mother's day!" somewhere. For the sake of this post, I'm going with the potentially incorrect Mother's, okay?

On Saturday, Austin and I ran many errands. We had lunch out together at Fazoli's using his free kid's meal coupon that he got for his birthday. My boy wanted mac and cheese and he got...fettucini alfredo, or "white mac and cheese", as I called it for his sake! He loved it! We also did a little shopping for me and got some groceries. I'm so proud of Austin because he alerted me each time he had to go to the bathroom and had no accidents! Incidentally, the bathrooms at Lane Bryant, Fazoli's, and Meijer all could use a little cleaning, especially in Lane Bryant where I completely whacked my forehead on a shelf after we washed our hands!

I tried to convince my son to take a nap when we got home from our multi-stop shopping trip, but he was having none of it. Nick woke up to take Austin shopping for my Mother's (hate it) Day gift around 4:30, and decided that they'd have dinner out at Denny's, just for fun! I think this was also part of my Mother's Day gift -- the gift of three solid hours of the house to myself! I enjoyed it, and also spent a part of it doing a little laundry and scooping the cat litter. Nice.

On Sunday, the actual Mother's Day holiday, Austin and I hung out again and did a few more errands. Nick and Austin had gotten me a really pretty necklace/bracelet combo that they'd given me the night before, but I wanted to try to exchange it for something a little less fancy so that I can get more use out of it. Alas, Bergner's had nothing I wanted and I couldn't even return it because I didn't have Nick's credit card with me, so the trip was almost for nothing. I say almost, because Austin discovered his LOVE of riding the escalator! It's was like our own personal (free!) carnival ride, and we rode that thing up and down at least a dozen times while shopping! We even walked over to Macy's to check out their jewelry selection and ride their escalator which was, I'm sorry to say, a bit more dog run than the Bergner's escalator.

For dinner on Sunday, Nick picked up Famous Dave's takeout and we all enjoyed a delicious BBQ meal at home! We were going to watch a movie together, but we ran out of time, so we're saving it for this week. I'm a pretty lucky mommy to have such a great kid and a great husband to appreciate me!

We knew them when they were just starting out...

...at Denny's!

Austin and I had a lunch date at Denny's today (I know, we're high rollers!) and there was a table of four young-ish guys sitting in a nearby area. First of all, we were separated from these guys by a partial wall, but I could see the tops of their heads. Second, one of these guys was talking SO LOUDLY that I felt that I was a part of their dining experience! The loud talker piped down eventually and another guy started talking. It was clear from his conversation that he is in a band and it seemed like he was either trying to get these other guys to join the band or back the band or something. There was much discussion of set lists, someone who is planning on recording the band, crazy band drama and antics, and "their sound".

I can't wait until someday this rag tag bunch of dudes ends up on the VMAs or something and I can say, "I know them! They were at Denny's!"

Wii Challenge -- Week 2 (2/17 - 2/23)

Wednesday, 2/17/10
I did not start Week 2 off with a bang! Plans with Lisa got changed due to a back injury and her blind hanging project (which we're calling Blindgate 2010), so she did not end up coming over tonight. I came home an hour early thanks to an early meeting in Peoria, changed my clothes into workout clothes, and...proceeded NOT to work out. I am kind of annoyed with myself. This week has been off for both Nick and I because I didn't grocery shop and plan as much as usual on the weekend, so we've feeling like we're running blind when it comes to our meals and working out. Nick is taking a hiatus until Sunday, when he'll start back up again. I'm trying to power through (because, let's remember...I really want that Wii!). I'm still okay for the week, as long as I don't skip too many more days.

Wii Challenge -- Week 1 (2/10-2/16)

I'm going to post when I do my Zumba/30-Day Shred workouts here so that I can be more accountable for them and also so that I can keep track of them! I'll update this post as Week 1 goes on.

Wednesday, 2/10/10
I did the 30-Day Shred with Lisa before watching our DVRd episode of Lost and the next Glee episode. We've decided we'll do this every Wednesday and also on other days that we get together and watch stuff. We decide that Jillian Michaels and the other women on her dvd don't understand why chubby people hate jumping jacks (hint: there's a lot more stuff that bounces around uncomfortably when you're chubby). Damn you, jumping jacks, for pointing out my problem areas so violently. Damn you.

Thursday, 2/11/10
As of now (11:45 a.m.), I haven't done anything. This may be one of my non-workout days, as I have to leave our house by 7:00 a.m. to get to the chiropractor's office and work on time. If I get motivated, I may do the 30-Day Shred tonight, but I'm not going to count on it yet. If I don't get anything in today, I'm still okay for the week. Note: I did NOT do any Shredding today.

Friday, 2/12/10
Lisa and I made a plan to get together tonight to watch my newly-arrived New Kids on the Block video, Coming Home, that I got for my birthday. I know, we're reliving our 1990-era dreams, and we love it! We decided we'd do Jillian's Shred pre-NKOTB video, so I didn't get up and do the Shred in the morning. When the evening rolled around, I was really ready to just watch our NKOTB video and a Glee and call it a night, but Lisa arrived in her workout gear, so we did it! We were both really happy that we convinced ourselves to Shred!

Saturday, 2/13/10
Austin and I hit the Kid's Expo at the Interstate Center this morning, which was a lot of fun! On a whim, we decided we'd go down to Decatur to visit Mom for Valentine's Day. I took the dvd and my hand weights so that I could Shred at Mom's house and managed to get a pretty good workout in while Mom and Austin played. This week's stats so far: 3 workouts in 4 days, so I'm on target!

Side note: I looked online at the website where I got Mom's Wii a month ago for a GREAT DEAL and, at the beginning of this week, they still had some at the great price. Now there are no more, and Wiis seem to be hard to find! I hope in 3 1/2 weeks, the stocks have replenished!

Sunday, 2/14/10
Happy Valentine's Day! I did do my workout today, but I'm going to be honest here. I did 30+ minutes on Mom's Wii Fit instead of Shred. I still sweated, did some virtual bike riding and step aerobics, and I feel pretty good about my exercising today!

Monday, 2/15/10
Zumba, baby! Whew! Tonight's Zumba class kicked my butt, and I taught it, so I guess I kicked my OWN butt! It was a very sweaty hour of high intensity Zumba. That burned some serious calories, I just know it!

Tuesday, 2/16/10
I did Shred today while watching TV at night. I have to say, I kind of was half-assing it, though, so I'm not happy with the workout, but I am happy that I got up off of the couch and did something, anyway!

Overall, Week 1 was a success. I didn't get the intensity that I wanted each day, and I did substitute Wii Fit for the Shred on Sunday, but I'm happy with my increased workout regimen this week. To go from one day a week of activity to six days of activity is a big accomplishment for me. On to Week 2!

The Challenge

So I've decided that I really, really want a Wii and Wii Fit. Erin and Danny have one, Mom has one, and I think we need to have one, too. At first when they came out, I thought, "That looks fun, but we already have an Xbox 360 and a Playstation 2, so there's NO WAY we are also getting a Wii." I have kept this attitude up for a couple of years (or however long they've been in existence). I played Erin's Wii Fit once when I was at her old house and had fun and then we all played with Mom's a couple of weekends ago and again, I really liked it! Also, after Christmas, it seemed that EVERYONE on my Facebook friend list had gotten a Wii/Wii Fit and was playing it because I kept reading status update after status update about it. Still, I remained strong in my one-woman quest to not own 95% of the video game systems available on the market today.

I have, however, broken down. I really want a Wii!

I decided that even though I could just go out and buy one, I'm going to make myself earn it. Here's the challenge I posed to myself. Starting yesterday, 2/10/10, I will do Zumba once per week (at least) and do the Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred dvd at least 5 times per week for the next 4 weeks. If I do this for 4 weeks, I can get a Wii. If not, my 4 weeks start over again and I can try again.

I'm pumped. I want that damn Wii.

I figure that this challenge has more than one benefit. If I'm able to do it successfully, I will not only get to buy the Wii, I will also have inevitably lost weight/toned up/become more healthy, which is the larger goal here. Also, by doing a much more regular exercise regimen, I will be in a habit of working out several times per week (instead of just the one that I do now!) which will result in my actually USING the Wii once I get it!

Here's to the next 4 weeks!

What If I Posted Today?

I know, it would be some sort of miracle, huh? I know Erin is tired of seeing the "Weekend of Sick" title on her blog, so here's a new one!

I get too wrapped up in feeling like I have nothing funny or clever or interesting enough to post about, so what if I just posted anyway? I'm going to try to go with that for a while and see what happens.

We are now in the midst of a winter storm. It doesn't look too bad outside -- there's some snow and blowing, but nothing that looks like the apocalypse will be hitting today. However, Nick did say that it was pretty icy on his way home from work this morning. He came in and told me he was heading back out to salt the driveway because he had parked his truck at the top of our driveway, went out to put something in the mailbox, and noticed his truck sliding backwards down the driveway! Not a desired action! On a related note, I have to give Nick major props because he is good at keeping our driveway shoveled and salted! He usually tackles this job first thing in the morning when he comes home from work, which means we usually have one of the clearest driveways on the cul de sac!

Okay, now it's snowing harder...

I don't mind if we get a lot of snow for the weekend because we really don't have any weekend plans outside of the home. I really, REALLY need to clean and organize EVERYWHERE this weekend! I always have good intentions but they often fall flat, so I am going to try my hardest to make it happen this weekend. I really love the way I feel when my house is clean and organized, but often times the laziness takes over and I just don't get it there. I blame the fact that I work, teach Zumba, and have an almost-3-year-old (can you even beleive that?), but I know that if I really wanted to, I could get it done. I'm going to try to be more on it!

There will also need to be a trip to the grocery store this weekend for our continued "Let's be healthy!" lifestyle change. I'm proud to say that we have all done really well this week. Nick has done his P90X all week long and seems to like doing it (so far!). We have eaten pretty healthily this week, too, and I've done better with the meal planning and prepping ahead of time, so we're going to work on continuing this trend. Even Austin got into doing some yoga and pushups with Nick last nights, although he really kept thinking we were going to eat yogurt!

Here's to a great weekend ahead!
